Why I Can Help
I have owned and grown a business for six years and have 19 years of experience in service-oriented companies and corporations. When I became a birth doula in 2007, it was very easy for me to set up my basic business structure because of my previous experience. What I was not prepared for was the emotional, mental, and ethical challenges that come with this line of work.
I spent several months researching best practices for running a doula business. I also took the time to do my own inner work, to help me gain clarity about how I want to help women during their pregnancy and birth. The result of my efforts is a business that reflects who I am and attracts the clients who will work best with me.
My experience has given me a well-rounded background that enables me to support new birth doulas who are serious about making their passion into a business and who want their business to reflect their unique qualities and values.
How I Can Help
My goal as a mentor coach is to help aspiring doulas develop their doula practice in a deep, authentic way, and to empower them to get their businesses set up effectively and efficiently so they can dedicate more of their time acquiring and supporting their clients.
Through the coaching process, I support the new doula in defining what she wants for her business and creating the goals to get her there. I believe our work in building a business is two-fold -- there is Inner Work and Outer Work. Within these two ways of working there are four aspects, and I help my clients to explore these aspects. By doing the Inner Work of identifying and understanding our deepest personal values, we are able to shape the goals for our business and be clear about how we can best assist women in birth. The Inner Work also drives the goal setting and decision making processes.
I recognize that for women who have never started a business before, it is easy to get overwhelmed and not know what direction to take. Information is available in the form of many resources, but the first step is figuring out where to start. As a mentor, I provide doulas with business resources based on an assessment of their personal needs. My clients are ultimately responsible for making the decisions for their business.
